As we all know how naive is lord shiva and to please him is very easy by an Asura, a deity or an ordinary human, Shiva never discriminated against his devotees. If someone remembers him with true mind and devotion, he easily makes it his own and fulfills his every wish. That is why the devotees of Mahadev also know him by the name of Bholenath. It is not that all devotees meditate on Shiva to protect truth and goodness or else try to please Shiva. And sometimes this is the reason that the Gods themselves had to suffer the brunt of giving the desired blessings to the devotees by being pleased with their severe penance. Lord Shiva is one of them who has suffered the brunt of after giving the desired blessings to the devotee.

There are many local folklore describes that Bhasmasur was a devotee of the god Shiva who performed great penance to obtain boon, then lord Shiva became pleased and asked him to ask for a boon. Bhasmasur asked for immortality but Shiva said that he did not have the power to grant him immortality, then Bhasmasur asked that he be granted the power that anyone whose head he touched with his hand should burn up and immediately turn into ashes (bhasma), Lord Shiva granted this wish, and later on suffer brunt, Bhasmasura thereupon attempt to touch the head of Shiva and try to turn him into ashes. Shiva fled, and chased by Bhasmasur. Wherever Shiva went, Bhasmasur chased him.
