Dry-fire training has been a part of my training regimen for as long as I can recall, but it's never been the least bit enjoyable until now.

Enter the Blackbeard AR-15 automatic trigger reset and laser system from the good folks at Mantis X. Combined with their Laser Academy smartphone application and smart targets, I actually ENJOY dry fire training for once!

Long story short, the Blackbeard system replaces your BCG with a system that automatically (and incredibly quickly) resets your trigger after each pull, powered by a battery pack designed to fit in the magazine well. Lets just say it works precisely as advertised...

Using their smart targets in conjunction with the Laser Academy app, you can create a large variety of practice courses of fire, shoot them while getting the exact same trigger pull, and receive the awesome feedback that comes with it.

I was hesitant at first, but after regular use of the system for several weeks, I went to the range, and could genuinely feel the dry fire training translate to improvements in live fire.

No, the system isn't cheap, but considering the cost of 5.56 these days, it more than pays for itself after the first few hundred trigger pulls. You can train for as little or as long as you like, focus on what you want (trigger pull, breathing, stance, sight picture, etc.) and it records all of your progress for you.

All praise aside, I was frustrated at first with attempting to boresight the laser in the BCG; the adjustments are not as precise or steady as I'd expect from a product that costs this much, but once I achieved boresight, it has stayed in place reliably.

Overall, I'd say this is an outstanding training tool, especially for those of us who can't shoot into a backyard berm whenever we please. Well worth the money, without a doubt.
