Helm v. Solem (1982) Overview | LSData Case Brief Video Summary

Jerry Buckley Helm, an alcoholic with six prior felonies, was sent to life imprisonment without parole for writing a "no account" check for $100. Helm argued that the sentence was cruel and unusual punishment, and the appeals court reversed the district court's decision, sending back for further proceedings.
