The experts strongly recommend three settings when using the ES15 in passthrough mode, specifically
Black Level Control: Input level
Black Level Control: Output level
AV-in NR

In this video, I'll show you where to find them in the menu and what buttons to press on the remote control. You need a remote to make these changes to the settings. If you don't have a remote control, I recommend buying an aftermarket remote or trying another Panasonic remote. In the video, I share info on which buttons to press on a Panasonic blu-ray remote.

_About the ES15_
The Panasonic DMR-ES15 DVD recorder has a built-in Line TBC feature that that can be used in passthrough mode to fix flagging. You connect your VCR to the ES15, and then output from the ES15 to the next device in your workflow, such as the SD capture device. The signal passes through the ES15 and gets fixed. This is recommend if you don't have a VCR with the Line TBC feature built-in.
