Описание к видео Steam Gramophone - The Phogrophone

The Phogrophone. The Fog engine “steam” is made by heat from a paraffin Primus burner under a brazed copper plate heat exchanger, steam generating boiler, about 3” square. This was David King’s design of “flash steam” boiler he was developing to drive a “V” 4 steam car engine he built in the 1960s.

The Fog Engine runs at about 6psi steam pressure max....ideal is 3 to 4 psi giving 78rpm needed for the record.

The speed of the steam (Fog!) engine and so the record player, is governed only by the air pressure in the Primus fuel tank supply, so that equals how much heat/steam is made per stoke.
Dad made the Fog Engine first and as so many people asked what it was for, he then made the gramophone later...and so it became the Phogrophone.

It is an ideal steam engine as it has no large pressure vessel and very safe. The copper heat exchanger water space is less in volume than 1/2 a new pencil.

The record playing here is Mrs. Mills, “Cross hand Boogy" and at a Hobby's Day in Suffield, Norfolk on 19th August, 2018.

Dad built it in the 1970s. All details are in his Bygones book pages 43 to 45 - “ David King, Man Of Steam”. Of all the 100s of things Dad made in his life time, I think this has to be the one to me that sums up his life. Entertaining and “doing different” as we say in Norfolk. Always a few copies of his book on eBay at a very modest cost! :) The steam car engine he built is on display at the “Forncett Industrial Steam Museum” in Norfolk. www.forncettsteammuseum.co.uk/
