I argue for a new approach: the Pacific Trident Initiative—a trilateral maritime alliance between the United States, Japan, and South Korea. By combining American innovation with Japanese precision engineering and South Korea’s unmatched shipbuilding efficiency, allied nations could standardize designs, use modular construction, accelerate production, and create fully interoperable fleets across the Pacific.

This is a case for a modern Bluewater New Deal: rebuilding shipyards, fleets, and maritime labor—not through smokestacks, but from the water up. The goal is deterrence, resilience, and renewed seafaring power through allied industrial cooperation.
