Even though Lily hasn't always had it easy, she hasn't let that stop her from striving for the life she desires. She left her little Maine town of origin, completed her college education, relocated to Boston, and launched her own company. She has gone a long way since then. Lily's life therefore appears almost too wonderful to be true as she develops feelings for a stunning neurosurgeon called Ryle Kincaid.
Ryle is confident, unyielding, and perhaps even a touch conceited. In addition, he is intelligent, sympathetic, and completely infatuated with Lily. It doesn't hurt that he looks good in scrubs either. Lily finds it impossible to ignore him. However, Ryle's total dislike of partnerships is unsettling. Lily can't help but wonder what initially made him that way, even as she finds herself the exception to his "no dating" rule.
Her first love and a link to the past she left behind, Atlas Corrigan, comes to mind as she is overcome with doubts about her current relationship. He was her guardian and a kindred soul. All that Lily and Ryle have created is put in jeopardy when Atlas arrives out of nowhere.
