What exactly is FAFSA Simplification, and what’s changed for 2024-25 FAFSA?

The new FAFSA form for 2024-25 is here on Dec. 31, so Southern New Hampshire University has provided you with a quick FAFSA walkthrough.

On the Federal Student Aid website (studentaid.gov/articles/fafsa-changes-coming) run by the Department of Education, there are a few changes to note in one of the largest overhauls to the FAFSA in years:

You’ll see the term “contributor,” which means anyone who’s been asked to have tax info from the IRS brought into your FAFSA. (This could mean you, but it could also refer to a spouse or a parent.)

You (and your contributors) must provide consent for the IRS info transfer.

You’ll need a studentaid.gov account to fill out the new FAFSA form.

The SAI (Student Aid Index) replaces the EFC (Expected Family Contribution). It’s a formula that determines your financial aid eligibility.

More students are projected to receive Pell Grants! 🎉

Your Student Aid Report is now called the FAFSA Submission Summary.
