"When I lost my mother, I ended up finding myself in this situation of smoking whoonga because of the stress I had, because there was three of us left in the family. I being the only son and with two sisters, I have now realised that I need to cut down on my smoking because I am not setting a good example to my siblings."

"The situation is worse than the word bad. These boys, once they are hooked, they would want more of the drug, and the only way they would accede to the money would be to go to your washing line, they would steal washing on your line, sell it a ludicrous value just for them to get more of the whoonga. At times there would be the issue of house robberies. We have seen in the past few weeks in Pinetown itself."

"Originally, we believed that whoonga was dagga and antiretroviral drugs, whichever antiretroviral people could get their hands on. Now we are realising that there may be other drugs in the mix as well. In treatment sometimes people on whoonga test positive for heroin too, which adds another complication to the whole drug that they are taking. And of course, when we talk about illegal drugs predominantly you can get any drug added by those who are supplying."
