Just hours after taking the oath at City Hall, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani signed an executive order revoking several directives from his predecessor, Eric Adams. The rescinded orders included one that expanded the definition of antisemitism and another that prohibited city employees and agencies from boycotting or divesting from Israel.

These directives were put in place after Adams’ federal indictment on September 26, 2024 — charges he denied and that were eventually dismissed. Mamdani said that day marked a turning point for many New Yorkers who felt politics offered them “nothing.”
