Alleah Taylor has spoken publicly for the first time about the night her now ex-boyfriend almost killed her. Taylor, 27, who was in a six-month relationship with former Seattle Seahawks offensive lineman Chad Wheeler, said she wasn’t so sure Wheeler’s mental health claims were the reason he attacked her last month.“To be honest I don’t know,” Taylor told CBS News’ Jericka Duncan. “He went and ate dinner after doing this to me. He didn’t take the same approach with the cops as he did with me.”Taylor accused Wheeler of twice choking her unconscious and was found by police beaten in the couple’s apartment. Taylor was crying in pain with her face covered in blood and her left arm swollen.“I still have to regularly get my concussion checked, I have bolts and a steel plate I’m gonna have forever in my arm,” Taylor said of the injuries she suffered at the hands of Wheeler, who is 6-7, 310 pounds. “I’m gonna have to deal with this the rest of my life.”Wheeler admitted to attacking Taylor, but on Twitter blamed it on a “manic episode.” Wheeler was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder, which he was on medication for and Taylor knew of, but had not taken it in the days surrounding the assault. Taylor told police that in the beginning of the day he seemed like he was starting to have a manic episode after he messaged her that he shaved his long hair, which she said he was very attached to. Wheeler spiraled emotionally through the day, Taylor said.“He stood up and he told me to bow down and I asked him why,” Taylor recalled of the Jan. 22 attack. “He didn’t respond, he just told me to bow down again. I told him no and he immediately grabbed my neck.”“When he grabbed my neck, he threw me on the bed and I remember looking up at him and saying, ‘please Chad, stop, it’s me,’” Taylor continued. “And I just immediately knew the look in his eyes that was it.”Taylor said she blacked out twice during the attack and when she regained consciousness, she saw Wheeler “standing by the bed by the doorway and he was sipping his smoothie and he was like ‘Wow, you’re still alive.’”Taylor then locked herself in the bathroom and called 911, saying “I’m gonna die.”Prior to the day of the attack, Taylor said the pair were “like best friends.”“We did everything together, I even introduced him to my family,” Taylor said. Wheeler was cut by the Seahawks soon after a photo of Taylor’s bloodied face went viral and calls to the team and the NFL to do something in light of another domestic violence attack involving a player in the league. Wheeler, who began his career with the Giants and spent two seasons with Big Blue, accepted the team’s decision, which was officially announced and framed around Wheeler having a mental illness.“It is time for me to walk away from football and get the help I need to never again pose a threat to another,” Wheeler tweeted. “I cannot express my sorrow or remorse enough. I am truly ashamed.
