Perseverance pays and experience is the best teacher.

Over a year since our small company, the Southseas Agri-Aqua Ventures Inc., launched the Sorghum Production Program, we have finally improved our planting protocols which yielded 2.6-metric tons in a 3,300-Square-Meter Demo Farm in Alamada, North Cotabato.

Since the Demo Farm Area is effectively 1/3 of an hectare, it is safe to extrapolate that the average yield for one hectare could be 7.8-metric tons of fresh grains.

With a shrinkage of 20% from drying and debearding, the net harvest weight estimate for one hectare is 6.2-metric tons or a gross income of at least P90,000.

Following our ceremonial harvest on Sunday, witnessed by farmers near the area, the Indian Jowar variety or White Sorghum was harvested after 115 days, gave us a heartwarming and encouraging yield.

This comes after months of challenges marked by low yields in our previous Sorghum farming areas mainly due to poor planting protocols.

With this development, SAAVI will now share the planting protocols with farmers who have signified their interest in joining the Sorghum production program.
