In 2013, as part of the annual Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival, climber and writer Geoff Powter led a fascinating interview with Dr. Tom Hornbein. As a physician and pioneer climber, Hornbein combined his love of mountains and medicine to shape an illustrious career, which examined the physiological effects of high altitude on the body. He made first ascents in his native US and in the Himalaya, most notably the West Ridge of Mt. Everest in 1963. He was the author of 'Medicine for Mountaineering' and 'The West Ridge' and remained actively involved with the University of Colorado's Altitude Research Center and Foundation well into his 80s.
