Performed by the University of Louisville Cardinal Singers. Dr. Kent Hatteberg, conductor.

"Wo ist ein so herrlich Volk" ("Where is there such a great nation,") is the third of three a cappella pieces from "Fest- und Gedenksprüche" ("Festival and Commemoration Sentences") Op. 109, composed in 1888 and 1889. While Brahms used biblical text, the works have a nationalistic flair, relating to the reunification of Germany in 1871. The text for "Wo ist ein..." comes from Deuteronomy 4, verses 7 and 9.
