Amid massive disruptions in IndiGo’s operations, with over 800 flights cancelled on Saturday after more than 1,000 the previous day, the government has stepped in to curb soaring airfares. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has reimposed airfare caps on affected routes to prevent opportunistic pricing and protect passengers. IndiGo has been directed to process all refunds for cancelled or disrupted flights by 8 p.m. on December 7, waive rescheduling fees, and reunite passengers with separated baggage within 48 hours. New pilot duty norms have been temporarily paused, and special facilitation cells are being set up to support stranded travellers. Normalcy is gradually returning at airports including Jaipur, Pune, Chennai, Delhi, Coimbatore, Varanasi, and Ranchi as additional counters and support systems are deployed. IndiGo says it is working to stabilize operations, with cancellations now reduced below 850 flights.
