This talk will discuss the history and geology of the Witwatersrand goldfield and will then concentrate on illustrating and elaborating on some of the interesting minerals that have been found in the goldfield.

Bruce Cairncross, emeritus Professor at the Department of Geology, University of Johannesburg, is a well-known author and photographer of minerals and gemstones and has published eleven books and over 100 articles on the subject. He is regularly invited to present public lectures on southern Africa’s minerals and gemstones.
