In this 40 minute presentation, we will run through the important steps you should take in order to create your first SEO Strategy. These steps are:

#1 - External Audit
#2 - Internal Audit
#3 - Setting Goals
#4 - Identify KPIs

Why Create Your First SEO Strategy?
A strategy is a plan of action to achieve a business goal so if your goal is to launch into a million markets at once maybe email or paid search is a better option for the short term. If, on the other hand, you want to grow your organic traffic through optimising your website and growing your content then SEO is the right choice for you. Overall, if you want to grow the amount of visitors to your website that use search engines, and you don’t want to pay for clicks, SEO is the way to go.

Step One - External Audit
An external audit is carrying out a competitor analysis to identify things that you could do better. This means looking at their website, content, PR and link building, onsite SEO efforts, and social platforms. By informing your SEO strategy through including new activities that competitors are doing you can dramatically improve your organic search ranking

Step Two - Internal Audit
Once you have looked at your competitors you want to take stock of all these things on your website - your website, content, PR and link building, onsite SEO efforts, and social platforms and benchmark them against your competitors. Build a list of things you need to start doing (or stop doing) that is informed by your leading competitors

Step Three - Setting Goals
Now you need to take this list of things to do and rationalise why you want to start doing them. What did your competitors achieve by doing them and is this the direction that your company wants to go in. You need to make sure you SEO strategy aligns with your business goals.

Step Four - Identify KPIs
Finally you want to set success metrics for your SEO goals. What will success look like for you when you start a project? Think about clicks, CTR, engagement metrics. There are so many more metrics to measure than just organic traffic.

Just remember, at the end of the day you should create a strategy that suits your business not a template you found online, or one created for a completely different industry and business. A tailored SEO strategy has more chances of working, than a generic one.
