These Sundays after the Epiphany are golden for church musicians (but then Dr. Edward Maki-Schramm thinks that all liturgical seasons are beautiful and extraordinary.) We have made it through the festivals of Christmas and Epiphany with flair. The Sundays after Epiphany allow us to sing our alleluias and as the psalmist says “blow the trumpet in the new moon” before our solemn observance of Lent begins on March 1st. To make the most of this time, for Sunday, January 26th, the choir sang a new work in our choral library, “O All Ye Works” (Festival Benedicite) by Philip W. J. Stopford (b. 1977), which is the first movement of a three-part work written by this British composer. We have several of his pieces in our choral library and Ed was so happy to add this great piece.
