After the tiniest of meetings at a regional Folk conference in Lisle, Il*, I was beyond thrilled that Kashimana agreed to come and meet me in the Big Green Bathroom, and to sing a little Tracy Chapman even. Kashimana possesses a glorious voice, is incredibly kind, radiates some kind of extra light AND professes a love of learning and curiosity for all things - this is just about my favorite combo in a human. It was such a joy to discuss where she feeds that curiosity, how we fill in our music gaps with deep dives, how Tracy Chapman’s debut album is ridiculously awesome, and maybe how Michael Jackson singing ‘Billie Jean’ started it all!
