Eutyches rhymes with you the keys: his divine nature and human nature form one new nature

Cyril: Jesus has one "physis." =nature? No. It probably meant “personal reality”, not “nature”
i.e., “Jesus doesn't have two personal realities, just one.
Eutyches read Cyril and said “that must mean the natures mix.”

The entire church saw the problem with this: His divinity and humanity are no longer the same.
All agreed that something was wrong with Eutyches’ Christology and thinking and called Chalcedon

Leo I, bishop of Rome, drafted a letter (“the tome of Leo”) to emperor Flavian (Constantinople)
This letter put forward a definition which dealt with this issue. Accepted by Chalcedon.

Not everyone in the empire accepted this! Many said, “no there's just one nature”.
They said they were in line with Cyril. “The two natures come together into one nature”.
“But”, they said “there is no mixture at all: He is consubstantial with us and with God.”

This remaining conflict sets up the context for the next (last) council we discuss.

Jesus is the Man who is God, fully God, fully man, one Person, two natures, two wills.
