SKIMS has launched a pilot biogas plant to convert food waste into renewable energy, inaugurated by Minister Satish Sharma as part of the government’s “waste-to-wealth” vision. The compact system produces biogas for cooking or power generation and organic manure as a byproduct. SKIMS Director Prof. Ashraf Ganie said the project will enhance energy efficiency and is complemented by plans for solar rooftop installations. The initiative is expected to serve as a model for institutions across Jammu and Kashmir to adopt clean and sustainable energy practices.
