INGREDIENTS:
6 tbsp unsalted butter
2 cups raw pecans
1 cup self rising flour (check video for alternative if you only have all purpose flour handy)
Pinch of salt
1 3/4 cup of light brown sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup whole milk
1 1/2 cups HOT but not boiling water

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 350℉ or 180℃.
2. Place your butter into your baking dish and place it in the oven to allow the butter to melt.
3. While the butter is melting, put your pecans into a Ziploc bag and using a rolling pin or heavy kitchen object, smash them down to break them apart a little.
4. After crushing your pecans, your butter should be melted.
5. Remove the baking dish from the oven and place onto a heat-proof surface. Then add about half of your pecans evenly across the bottom of the pan. Set aside when done.
6. Next add your flour, 3/4 cup of your brown sugar, salt, milk, and vanilla extract to a bowl and whisk until well combined. Your consistency should resemble very thick pancake batter.
7. Using a large spoon, scoop dollops of batter out of the bowl and place them into your baking dish evenly spaced. It's okay if the baking dish surface is not fully covered, the batter is very thick and we don't want to mix it or smooth it out at all.
8. Next, in a separate bowl, combine the rest of your pecans and brown sugar and whisk them together until homogenous.
9. Next, place handfuls of the pecan/brown sugar mixture on top of the batter. it doesn't matter how well covered the surface is but do your best to get as even a layer as possible without mixing or smoothing out.
10. Heat 1 ½ cups of water in the microwave until very hot and steamy. Slowly pour it over the entire baking dish, making sure there that there is no powdery bits left.
11. Place in your preheated oven for 45 minutes.
12. Remove from the oven and let cool for 15-30 minutes before serving. I like to serve mine with some vanilla ice cream and a hot cup of coffee!
