How to play the D chord - True Beginner Ukulele Tutorial with exercises - D Chord Domination

Today we are going to learn how to play the dreaded D chord. This is a tru beginner ukulele lesson, but it does get progressively more difficult, so if you are a true beginner and you can't play everything in the lesson don't get frustrated, go as far as you can, incorporate those exercises into your playing and come back later, watch the video and incorporate the more difficult exercises into your practice routine.

Decrepitly difficult this dastardly D demands dedication. That is the first time I have ever used assonance in the intro text, it felt good. Whether you are a true beginner just playing Ukulele for the very first day or you have been playing for a couple of months the D chord can be a chord that will trip you up a little bit, it can be really difficult to get the chord to articulate and ring out cleanly and even more of a challenge to do so consistently. Today we are going to talk about how to the make the chord and and we are going to go a handful of exercises that I created to reinforce the chord, that means we will be both strumming it, fingerpicking it and mixing up the two to make sure that not only can we play the D chord on our ukulele, we can dominate the D chord on our ukulele, use it in any scenario and change to it from any chord.

The D chord appears as the I chord in the key of D, IV in the key of A and V in the key G, you will also see it in their relative minor keys of Bm, F#m and Em as well. As a result you want to be able to change to and from a D chord with D, Em, F#m, G, A, Bm, Am, C, C#m and E. As you get more comfortable with these exercise start to change the chords that you do them with, rotating the exercise with all of those chords in that list that you can play.
