Lisane and Jeanine Basquiat, sisters of the late painter Jean-Michel Basquiat, shared intimate stories about their childhood and family life. Born to a Puerto Rican mother and a Haitian father, the Basquiat siblings were raised in the diverse neighborhood of Brooklyn during the late '60s and '70s, which they described as a "complete melting pot." Their mother enriched their lives with cultural trips to museums and botanical gardens, and according to Lisane, was a key figure in instilling creativity in them. They also opened up about their brother's unfortunate accident at the age of eight, during which he was hit by a car and his spleen had to be removed. Lisane points to this incident as a critical point in Jean-Michel's life, ultimately influencing his later works.
