The modern university loves to call itself “future-facing,” but it’s quietly abandoned the very texts that built our cultural vocabulary.

And yet: when a single Paradise Lost seminar reappeared at my university, it drew a 500-person waitlist. For Milton. For blank verse. For Satan and sovereignty.

So here’s the proposal: an informal, unfashionable, unapologetically serious Western Canon book club—not as museum worship, but as live intellectual fuel.

We begin with the opening of Homer’s Iliad: rage, honour, wounded pride, and institutions collapsing from the inside.

Not a course. Not a credential. A gathering.
If the institution won’t host these conversations, we’ll have them anyway.
