Feeling salty? Let your worries bubble away with 12 hours of Artemia brine shrimp swimming to a bubbling soundscape behind the scenes of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, just in time for #ShrimpWeek2024.

An important part of our commitment to animal welfare includes providing healthy and nutritious foods for our animals. In some cases, that requires giving healthy and nutritious foods to their food as well.

At the Aquarium, we grow brine shrimp (Artemia sp., a.k.a. sea monkeys) behind the scenes daily, as they’re a shrimportant food item for our jellies and some fishes. To increase their overall nutrition, we also feed home-grown enriched microalgae to the brine shrimp.
