Percussion Ensemble Concordia Obbicht performs Evolve.
Composed by Etienne Houben.
This performance was part of the concert program HUMANO, performed during the World Music Contest (WMC) 2022 in the Concert Division for percussion ensembles.

“HUMANO consists of five compositions, five human-defining elements which pass by. Elements which we all encounter will be added to our thread of life, giving us direction on our life path. This evolving red life thread will be visualized by our silent actress Kiki Severins and on-stage animator Roy Wagemans. With the percussion ensemble as the main voice of these elements.

HUMANO's final composition Evolve is composed by our conductor Etienne Houben. The ever evolving connection between our physical and digital life thread is expressed in this crossover composition by using physical and digital music. It starts with the smallest possible musical germ: a metronome. The germ gradually evolves into energetic highs full of ‘joie de vivre’, including solo
performances for vibraphone and battery percussion. After a final eruption HUMANO ends as it began: coming full circle with the earthly melody from afar. And a life thread enriched with experiences, ready to be unrolled upon the path of life.”
