West Bengal Sandeshkhali: The Untold Story | Ground Report By Tamal Saha

Sandeshkhali, a humble village in Bengal's North 24 Paraganas District has now become a story of revolt. Women have erupted in protest against what they allege has been a "systematic abuse of power" for a very long period. Villagers have alleged torture and human rights violations at the hands of local Trinamool Congress leaders. Some women have alleged that Seikh Shahjahan, an absconding TMC man, and his associates have been perpetually "outraging the modesty of women". While claims of harassment/ sexual assault made by women have not been first-person accounts but they claim the sufferers have chosen to remain silent owing to distrust towards police and fears of social stigma.
