Unveiling the divine legends of Ekadashi and Lord Vishnu

In ancient times, a mighty demon named Mura terrorized the heavens, earth, and underworld. Even
the gods couldn’t defeat him. Seeking help, they turned to Lord Vishnu, the protector of the universe.

A fierce battle began between Lord Vishnu and the demon Mura. It lasted for thousands of years. Tired from the endless fight, Lord Vishnu decided to rest for a while in a cave called Himapushpa.

As He slept, Mura saw an opportunity and entered the cave to kill Him. But just as Mura raised his weapon to strike, a divine light emerged from Lord Vishnu’s body. From this light appeared a radiant and powerful goddess — Goddess Ekadashi.

With great strength and fury, Goddess Ekadashi fought Mura and destroyed him instantly. When Lord Vishnu awoke, He was surprised to see Mura slain and a divine maiden standing before Him.

Lord Vishnu asked,
“Who are you?”

She replied,
“I am your Shakti, born from your divine energy to protect you during rest.”

Pleased, Lord Vishnu granted her a boon. She asked that anyone who observes a fast on the day she appeared — the 11th day (Ekadashi) of every lunar fortnight — would be freed from sins and attain moksha (liberation).

Thus, Lord Vishnu declared:
“Whoever observes Ekadashi vrat with devotion shall attain my blessings and eternal peace.”

Since then, Ekadashi is considered a highly sacred day to fast, pray, and remember Lord Vishnu and Goddess Ekadashi.

🔸 Hindi Version (हिंदी में कथा):
प्राचीन समय की बात है, एक भयंकर राक्षस था जिसका नाम था मुर। वह स्वर्ग, पृथ्वी और पाताल तक आतंक फैला रहा था। देवता उससे परेशान होकर भगवान विष्णु की शरण में गए।

भगवान विष्णु ने मुर राक्षस से युद्ध शुरू किया जो हजारों वर्षों तक चला। अंततः भगवान विष्णु थोड़े थक गए और हिमपुष्पा नामक एक गुफा में विश्राम करने चले गए।

जब भगवान विष्णु सो रहे थे, तब मुर ने उन्हें मारने का मौका देखा और गुफा में प्रवेश किया। जैसे ही वह वार करने वाला था, भगवान विष्णु के शरीर से एक तेजस्वी दिव्य प्रकाश निकला। उस प्रकाश से एक अत्यंत शक्तिशाली देवी प्रकट हुईं — देवी एकादशी।

देवी एकादशी ने भयंकर युद्ध करके मुर राक्षस का वध कर दिया। जब भगवान विष्णु जागे तो देखा कि मुर मारा जा चुका है और एक दिव्य स्त्री उनके सामने खड़ी है।

भगवान विष्णु ने पूछा —
"तुम कौन हो?"

देवी बोलीं —
"मैं आपकी शक्ति हूँ, आपकी रक्षा के लिए आपके भीतर से उत्पन्न हुई हूँ।"

भगवान विष्णु ने प्रसन्न होकर उन्हें वर माँगने को कहा। देवी एकादशी ने कहा कि जो भी व्यक्ति चंद्र मास की एकादशी तिथि को उपवास करेगा, उसे पापों से मुक्ति और मोक्ष की प्राप्ति हो।

भगवान विष्णु ने कहा —
"जो भी श्रद्धा से एकादशी व्रत करेगा, वह मेरी कृपा का पात्र होगा।"

तब से एकादशी व्रत का महत्व स्थापित हुआ और यह दिन भगवान विष्णु और देवी एकादशी की भक्ति के लिए सर्वोत्तम माना गया।

Ekadashi symbolizes self-control, devotion, and purity.

Fasting on Ekadashi not only purifies the body and soul but also brings one closer to Lord Vishnu’s grace.

It is a powerful path to attain spiritual liberation and inner peace.
