OBDLink LX Bluetooth diagnostic with Hybrid Assistant

Caution:
I do not recommend playing around with the app while you are driving the vehicle as it is a distraction you don't need.
An on board diagnostic tool can tell you what that dreaded "Check Engine" light is all about. I tried out the OBDLink LX Bluetooth onboard diagnostic tool on my 2017 Rav4 Hybrid yesterday. The OBDLink app can be downloaded by scanning the QR code on the start guide card. I downloaded the Hybrid Assistant app as well by going to the Play Store on my Android phone. Hybrid Assistant can do a check on the status of the hybrid battery so it's a valuable tool for owners of hybrid vehicles.
Plug the OBD into the Port underneath your dash and press the (ON) power button to pair the OBD with your smart phone. If it doesn't work for the first time, you probably have other bluetooth devices connected. Just disconnect the bluetooth by turning the bluetooth switch to off and back on and it should detect the OBD module.
The default OBDLink app can do a lot but most folks would use it for diagnosing "Trouble codes". You can also clear the codes after the repair with this tool. The functions are too numerous to describe.
I installed the Hybrid Assistant app for I'm interested mostly in the condition of the "Traction" or Hybrid battery. It can show the condition of the individual block of cells in the hybrid battery. For an older car like my son's 10 year old prius, this will let you know when you have to think about replacing the hybrid battery.
The reporter function lets you generate a report and share it. Amp draw of the OBDLink is 2mA so you can leave it plugged in. Unplug it if you don't plan to drive for a few weeks. I would TURN OFF the car's engine before plugging in or unplugging to avoid damage to your car's computer. Familiarize yourself with operating the Hybrid Assistant and you can make the best of your vehicle. OBDLink worked well in my car and did not disconnect while my car was moving.
