1 OVERVIEW OF THE PROJECT
There are different types of the Learning Management Systems (LMS) which are adapted by different types of the universities in the world in last decade. The Learning Management System (LMS) is a system based on the web portal which help in learning and teaching by using internet and it generates interactions in between tutors and students. The LMS also help the tutors in sharing the resource of learning with the student. The renowned LMS available are known as Chisimba, Atutor, Moodle and Sakai (Unwin et al., 2010).
The LMS is used to enhance the quality of education by strengthening the connection between the student and tutor, whereas there is some type of LMS which provide the option of online video conferencing of the tutor with the students for the purpose of distance learning (Unwin et al., 2010; Ssekakubo et al., 2011). The LMS is also used to control the increased numbers of the students through blended and distance learning programs (Unwin et al., 2010). Hence, due to many significances of the LMS, there are a number of universities in the world which are adapting the system of online Learning Management.
There are many types of LMS available on the internet for the facilitation of the students and the tutors such as Easyclass, Zoom Classroom, Microsoft Teams, Hypersay, Nearpod, Google Form, Google Classroom, Edmodo, Mentimeter, Brainpop, Flipgrid, Edufow, Video Ask by Typeform, Google Hangouts Meet, Youtube Videos and Screen Recorders etc.
A number of LMS have been used by the higher education departments of the world and it has been continuously adapted by a number of institutes of the world but evidences of improvements of performance of students had not been clearly observed (Phillips et al., 2011). The different type of survey data has been collected by the different researchers for the purpose of interpretation of the results of benefits of LMS on students’ performance (Such as, Ssekakubo et al., 2011; Lwoga, 2014, 2012). The data of found from the details of insights of the LMS system is of low reliability and is subjected to distortions (Jo et al., 2014). Furthermore, the data obtained after conducting survey from the students might not be correct indication of the learnings made by the students with the help of the LMS (Phillips et al., 2011).
The LMS being used by the university is not supporting the language system related to Urdu parameters and some features of the scoring criteria are also needed to be updated. Therefore it is required to design new LMS system for the university.
