A few words about magic resistance:
I prefer to stack it to about 80%, then you definitely won't care about spells like fireball, paralysis, etc.
Runes in weapons can give about 30%, Cinch of Skillful Maneuvering - 10%, Spellward - 30%, dwarf - 10% and other mini bonuses like 4% from the Key to the City etc.
This is the main reason I use Spellward in all my runs - 30% spell resist is insanely huge boost, allowing you to almost ignore enemy magic when stack it with other gear.
You can sctack it to 100% if you really want, but there is no particular reason, 75-80% will be enough.
Other runes you can do on physical resistance for 90-100. When it reaches 90-100 from leveling, you can change it to damage runes (preferably fire or lightning)
Having high physical resistance is very important to avoid being knocked down and being stunned by enemy skills.
