Eunuchs in History | Who, Why, and for What Purpose Conducted Castration?

We all vividly remember the series "Game of Thrones." Despite the large number of memorable and vibrant characters in the first seasons, in my opinion, the most charismatic and striking of all was the eunuch Varys. Write in the comments which character you remember the most.

It was in this series that many first learned that the intentional castration of a person actually existed in history. Those with a better grasp of history often associate this phenomenon with Ancient Persia. In reality, eunuchs existed both before the rise of Persia and after its fall. The practice of castration was widely used, starting with the Sumerians and extending to the Muslim sultans in India and the Byzantine Court in Constantinople. In the Middle Ages, eunuchs served at the Papal court, held various positions in Catholic churches, and participated in church choirs.

At some point, I asked myself a logical question: why was it necessary to turn an ordinary person into a eunuch? What was the rationale behind it? Was castration a thoughtless imitation of earlier civilizations by later ones, or did this procedure have a logical basis and proven effectiveness in practice?

Let's delve into this question together.
