This is a two-day time-lapse of a record-breaking spell of hot weather in July 2022. This spell seen the UK, as well as all four of its countries break their all-time records. Five official weather stations in England recorded over 40°C on 19 July for the first time since records began, with a peak of 40.3°C at Coningsby, Lincolnshire. Scotland and Wales also broke their all-time records, with 35.1°C and 37.1°C respectively.

At my location (near to Chorley, Lancashire), Monday 18 July began cloudy before the sunshine broke through, rapidly building the heat. The hottest of the air mass arrived in the evening, with a very late peak in the temperature (35°C). This itself was the highest temperature I've ever seen.

Overnight, it remained exceptionally warm. There was no rain, but some cloud kept the temperatures in the mid-20s°C. Emley Moor, West Yorkshire set a new record for the highest minimum temperature of 25.9°C, beating the previous record by some margin.

Tuesday 19 July was then another record-breaker, with the temperature skyrocketing from very early in the day. In the early afternoon, the temperature peaked at an extraordinary 37°C locally - an incredible figure for rural Northern England, before a swift but otherwise inconspicuous cold front quickly dropped the temperature. From then on, the day remained "only" in the low-30s.
