In a significant policy move, the Ministry of Defence is set to introduce comprehensive rules regulating books written by serving and retired armed forces personnel. The new framework, which formally incorporates the Official Secrets Act into the clearance process, follows controversy over former Army Chief General (Retd.) M.M. Naravane’s unpublished memoir. Under the proposed system, prior clearance from the Ministry or Army Headquarters will be mandatory before manuscripts are shared with publishers.
