Empire Phono Cartridges: The Last Moving Magnet vs. The First Moving Iron.

Описание к видео Empire Phono Cartridges: The Last Moving Magnet vs. The First Moving Iron.

1969/1971. The 1000ZE vs the 1000ZE/X. Empire’s flag-ship model first released as a moving magnet cartridge and later changed to a moving iron design.
The cartridge bodies are physically identical except for the labels. The ZE is slightly heavier by 0.1 gram and the coils of the ZE/X have different inductance and resistance values. The stylus assemblies are also physically identical but the shank of the ZE does have a magnetic element inside while the ZE/X has an iron element. Distinguishing between the two assemblies can be made by bringing a magnet close to the shank. For an iron element, the shank will be attracted to both poles of the magnet. But with the moving magnet assembly, the shank will be repelled with one pole and attracted to the other pole of the magnet. There are electronic differences but does that translate to audible differences?
