Howdy ya’ll. Welcome back. In saying thank you for helping my channel to reach 145,000 subscribers, I’ve accumulated for you the oldest photographs of one of the most important cities in history; Damascus.

These images will showcase some of the finest architecture of any kind throughout our historical timeline, yet the dilapidated nature of some of the buildings, as compared to other sections of Damascus (like The Great Mosque) appears to create a dichotomy which we often must come to terms with in the Old World.

How much of the architecture had fallen into disuse by the 19th century? Can these first photographs help facilitate our learning of the true history of Damascus? I believe so. To ease our research, I’ve gone through and translated the title for each image while also including the date. Let’s travel back in time, to Damascus, Syria, in the 19th century! Enjoy!
