Mia Morris – What Made You Famous / original song / Nashville Songwriter & Multi-instrumentalist

What Made You Famous is a song I wrote and recorded about 10 weeks ago. I had gone to a show in Nashville the night before in a mostly empty, tiny room where all the musicians were total pros and most of the artists had at least one really good song along with some really compelling voices. As I glanced at my phone before I sat down to write the next day, I saw some very uninspiring and yet, very famous musicians. Thankfully, that is the exception as there are plenty of incredible talents that also find wide-spread success but this song is a slightly angry take on fame that comes by way of something other than talent or valuable contribution. I feel better now :)
This music video is the first that I’ve made that involved anyone without Morris in their name. I met Dustin Kirkendall about a year ago at a YT event on Music Row and we talked about maybe working together at some point. After I recorded this song in my basement and liked the heavy vibe, I thought it might be a good song to experiment with. It was a couple months later when we got around to it so I re-recorded a few vocals and we shot the video in the same studio where that was done. I’m 15 years old and I want to be a musician when I grow up. I try to play many instruments but the one that I feel most at home on is a drum set. I would say the only thing that impresses me more than a great musician is a great songwriter so I also spend some of my time trying to learn the magic of songwriting. I thought it would help me keep focused on music if I started a drum series where I learned a new song every couple of weeks. After 5 years, it’s now turned into a larger musical search but my goal hasn’t changed. Hopefully, I will keep doing it, keep loving music and keep getting better.
