Windows into Homelessness: A Virtual Journey

Описание к видео Windows into Homelessness: A Virtual Journey

Windows Into Homelessness uses the latest immersive 360° video technologies to push the boundaries of traditional storytelling methods and immerse viewers in experiences of homelessness in Perth.

The work piques the curiosity of the artist and audience in its presentation of new ideas challenging common assumptions around homelessness and providing unique insight into experiences of rough sleeping on the streets of Perth. It provides a platform for the voices of people experiencing homelessness and just one way for people to gain greater empathy and understanding of the realities of homelessness.

"It is helpful to listen to the stories of homeless individuals and
learn about their lives. Their voices are often ignored or simply
inaudible to the ears of greater society... If you cannot walk in their shoes, then you must, at least, listen to their stories."
(Caitlin Wise BSN, RN & Kenneth Phillips PhD, RN (2013) Hearing the Silent Voices: Narratives of Health Care and Homelessness, Issues in Mental Health Nursing, 34:5, 359-367)

Developed by Michelle Bunting (Anthropol) and Luke Griffiths for the Centre for Social Impact UWA (CSI UWA), the film was created with significant support and guidance from organisations including Ruah Community Services, St Bartholemew's House, and St Patrick's Community Support Centre. Individuals who have experienced homelessness in Perth also gave significant guidance and feedback, and in some cases provided their stories, including Ian Bingham who features in the film. The film project was made possible by a grant from the UWA Centre for Education Futures and primarily developed for the undergraduate unit Changing the World: Social Innovation, Finance & Enterprise at The University of Western Australia. CSI UWA and the film-makers sincerely thank everyone who has contributed to the development of this film.

Windows into Homelessness first featured in the Social Impact Festival 2017 (18-28 July 2017) (https://socialimpactfestival.org/) and later in an event during Homelessness Week 2017 (http://www.shelterwa.org.au/homelessn...) on Monday 7 August.
