Flower Alley routes Travers field

"SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y., Aug. 27 - As soon as the gates opened Saturday in the 136th running of the Travers Stakes, the game was on between two jockeys who had to do more than ride their fast horses around the racetrack. If they were going to claim the Midsummer Derby, they had to think their horses around the mile-and-a-quarter oval.

On Bellamy Road, Javier Castellano's battle plan was one of blunt force. His colt was quick of foot but had not raced in four months. Castellano wanted to break quickly, take a big lead and discourage the six other horses that trailed in his wake...."
