Bad Driving - July 2024

0:00 Stopped/Parked in bike lanes
0:51 Broadway & Victoria St
2:11 Near collisions and dangerous driving
3:27 Passing too close
4:28 Going through red/yellow lights
7:44 Using reserved lanes (e.g. bus lanes)
8:43 Not yielding to pedestrians/emergency vehicles
9:35 Illegal U-turns & Ignoring no-entry, no-turn, must-turn, etc. signs & ignoring lane markings
11:50 Ignoring stop signs and not yielding
15:20 Confusing behaviour & not signalling
16:23 Coming to a stop beyond the stop line
20:35 Blocking intersections/crosswalks
23:13 Stopped illegally/poorly
25:55 Parked illegally/poorly
29:16 Speeding

Testing out red boxes to highlight unclear situations. Not sure how well it worked. As usual, there were many more instances of bad driving witnessed but not captured on camera. I get approximately 1 instance every 2-3 minutes of cycling (not including e.g. the seawall where there are virtually no cars in sight).

Reminders:
It's illegally for a car to use/park in/stop in a bike lane (except to turn right, and only when it's a dashed line).
As of June 3 2024 you must give at least 1m of space when passing cyclists - measured from the extremities, i.e. side mirror to handle bar.
If you can safely stop for a yellow light, you must do so.
Pull over and stop when there are emergency vehicles with sirens.
Yield to pedestrians in (marked or unmarked) crosswalks.
Don't enter an intersection unless there's enough space for you to exit it.

Specific clips:
2:45 - left turn into crossing cyclist
3:27 - close pass and then not stopping at 4-way stop
9:35 - only buses and bikes are allowed to enter this road
10:20 - turning right from the left lane (across a bike lane with no visibility)
10:32 - going through a bike-only traffic diverter
10:48 - several clips in a row of the same lane where you must turn right, but several cars go straight
12:03 - car approaching from the right completely ignores stop sign then doesn't signal left and next intersection and finally stops well beyond the stop line
14:01 - in addition to not stopping, this car veers off to the left a few times
15:20 - I clearly signal a right turn well in advance, yet the car seems to wait for me to pass on the left
16:56 - multiple cars not stopping at the stop lines, despite this being a busy 4-way stop on a bike route
20:35 Distracted driving - car sits at green light for 4-5 seconds (bonus: cars turning into the not-right-most lane, and blocking the intersection)
29:07 - these parking spots at Safeway are for "small cars"
29:15 - cyclists get annoying speed bumps to protect them from the cars which are speeding without consequence on the nice flat, wide road
