Enfield Road – The Oxley Hwy to Gloucester Adventure Ride

This one probably isn’t Toni's favourite!
We’ve been exploring different ways of riding from/to the Oxley Hwy to/from Gloucester. Having enjoyed Thunderbolts Way, Brackendale Rd, Knoddingbul Rd and the routes through Wingham & Comboyne, today we decided to try the Enfield Forest — Upper Yarrowitch River Rd, Enfield Rd & Enfield Range Rd.
We probably wouldn’t put this in the fun basket — the route required constant concentration due partly to the recent rains creating a few slippery patches and plenty of filled potholes, lots of rocks & stones, areas where the road became a basic trail and km after km of undulating, winding rutted riding — Toni kept calling it a track!
Still, it was a great adventure — many might say it was easy, but for us, it’s just ticked off as an achievement ✅.
We eventually (after 70km) turned onto a road we really like — Nowendoc Rd, but thought it too was a bit disappointing — hundreds of potholes on this one mean you’ve really got to stay switched on.
I guess we’d already ridden 300km before we started the Enfield State Forest area, so by the time we reached our destination at Gloucester (via Tiri, Callaghans Creek & Bundook) we’d ridden a 440km day with plenty of gravel — hence, Toni claiming she deserved a bottle of wine and a massage!
