What is helicopter parenting?

Just like a helicopter hovers on land. It could be taken as, when a parent looks after each and every activity of their kid. What is he doing? When is he going to classes? And stuff like that. It is something that parents do to make their child a “perfect” human being. The Helicopter Parents keep a close eye on every activity and action of their children. From their homework to the friend circle, they involve themselves in everything related to their child’s life.



Is Helicopter Parenting bad?

There’s a common belief among parents that if they would not look after each and every activity of their child, he might just not perform up to his complete potential. Expert Sushant Kalra says that parents should ask themselves - “Is my child capable of doing stuff?” The answer to these questions is yes. Parents should reassure their kids, and support them no matter what.

In today’s world, where there are so many distractions like video games, social media, etc. This is one of the reasons parents believe in helicopter parenting style. But if we look at it there’s another way of solving this issue. Parents should have a conversation with their kids.



This requires a lot of conscious parenting, and learning on the part of parents. Otherwise, by default you are ought to control and stop your child from doing anything that they wish to do. Which in the future, can be proved detrimental to their child.



How is your parenting affecting your child’s development and personality?

A child’s personality and behaviour very closely depends on the parents. One of the biggest thing that one should remember as a parent is that your child will copy you. We often say that be a role model for your child. But in reality, we are the role models for our kids. Parents should notice how their kid makes a perspective in his parent’s way only. He talks like his parents and does everything like his parent.



If you give your child an opportunity to fail, they will not be afraid of failure. So, always remember that your parenting put an 100% effect on how your kid is going to be.
