Remembering the mute swans' cygnets 🦢🐥😢

My favourite memories of the mute swans' 2024 brood. Sadly all seven cygnets were predated by common buzzards (Buteo, buteo) and lived for just two and a half weeks.

After following their story from the moment the eggs were laid, through the dramas of hatching and their first, adorable, swims, it was heartbreaking to find their discarded remains.

But there is some solace in knowing that the culprits also had young to feed.

Date filmed: April-June, 2024

This swan pair will not now breed again until next year, when I will again follow their story via a livestream from their nest. Stay tuned for 2025 brood incoming!
