This is the first video in a series called “MYTH & RITUAL”
It’s a basic introduction into the Myth and Ritual complex as seen in the historical/anthropological field of Hellenic Studies. I begin to discuss what this complex is, but I mostly give interpretations and read into the most fundamental aspects of it. This allows us to see how these ideas can apply to our lives in spiritual, philosophical, and practical ways as we move forward with our learning. Thank you to everyone for supporting my videos!

Here’s essentially what’s being laid out in this video:
1 - There is a popular understanding of the Individual and the Whole.
2 - Some of us like to give priority to the Individual, some of us give priority to the Whole.
3 - This dichotomy is equivalent to the physical/metaphysical duality.
4 - Both of these ideas (Indiv./Whole, Physical/Meta) and their connection, is evident in many different cultures.
5 - One culture that deals with this is ancient Greek culture through the “Myth and Ritual complex.”
6 - Myth in the Greek world embodied an aggregate of a particular societies’ truth (not a fiction!!)
7 - Ritual embodied the idea of the individual.
8 - Myth and Ritual rely on each other for their existence and significance.
9 - Neither one takes precedence over the other in the understanding of truth. It is the whole system of interactions between two opposing forces that gives life to truth.
10 - This is true for Myth/Ritual, Collective/Individual, Metaphysical/Physical
11- Understanding this helps us integrate two fundamentally opposing forces, and can influence the way we think about Dichotomies in general.
