How to Start Your Career as a Drone Pilot:

Part 1: Introduction
You can earn around 40,000 to 50,000 INR per month as a drone pilot. This is a growing industry, and by 2030, India is expected to become a major drone hub. While that sounds exciting, many people don’t know what steps to take to become a drone pilot. Let's start with the basics.

First, clarify whether you want to be a commercial drone pilot or a hobbyist. Commercial pilots aim to earn money and make drone flying a source of income. Hobbyists fly drones for fun, often while traveling. This video focuses on those who want to become commercial pilots; a separate video for hobbyists will be available soon.

Step 1: Course/Training
In India, you must complete a course and obtain certification to be officially recognized as a drone pilot. The Indian government has launched a website called Digital Sky, which provides all the information you need about the drone industry. Here, you can find Remote Pilot Training Organizations (RPTOs) where you can complete your course and earn your Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC). The website also outlines what you'll learn, eligibility requirements, and course fees. Since this is a broad topic, I’ll cover it in detail in a separate video. Be sure to check multiple RPTOs, as they may have different offers, helping you find the best deal in your city.

Part 2: Practical Experience
After completing your course, you’ll need to gain practical experience. This means you should buy a drone to practice flying. Decide on a budget that suits you, as there are many options available in different price ranges. If you're interested in specific areas like agriculture or mapping, you'll need to research the drones best suited for those industries.

Once you have your drone, practice flying in open areas with minimal crowds or tall buildings. Aim for at least 10-15 hours of flight time to improve your skills and prepare for various projects.

Step 3: Finding Opportunities
With your RPC in hand, consider your career options. There are two main paths: freelance work, where you can take on projects as they come, or a full-time job with companies or institutes. You can find opportunities on platforms like Tropogo, but you’ll also need to network and connect with industry professionals.

Part 3: Industries for Freelancing
After getting some flying experience, you can start taking paid projects. Here are a few industries to consider:

1. Wedding Industry: Many drone pilots begin here, gaining valuable experience.
2. Aerial Cinematography: This includes commercial ads, films, sports, and documentaries. These projects typically require 20-30 hours of flight experience due to their specific output needs and often pay better than wedding gigs.
3. 3D Mapping: This industry is growing in India, particularly for creating 3D models of land parcels and real estate before construction.

Part 4: Other Industries
Agriculture is another sector with significant government support, using drones for pesticide spraying and surveillance. Other areas include drone delivery, disaster management, logistics, medical drones, and inspections. While opportunities in these fields may be limited currently, they are expected to grow in the near future.

For job opportunities, use platforms like LinkedIn and Tropogo. You’ll find various roles and tender offers there. Tropogo is a great resource for drone rules, insurance, training course offers, and job opportunities. I recommend joining their community, especially their WhatsApp group.

Part 5: Conclusion
Now is a great time to enter the drone industry. Explore and find your niche. As you gain 2-3 years of experience, you'll discover your creative direction and connect with the community for new opportunities. I started as a wedding drone pilot, and now I work in real estate. Every path has its pros and cons, but finding what you enjoy is what matters.

Pro Tip: It's normal to feel nervous on your first flight—many pilots experience this adrenaline rush. Enjoy that unique feeling after your first flight.
