Between Cuban Linx installments, Rae's most worthwhile work was on fanmade comps and bodega bootlegs- the one with the goofy House of Wax Vatican themed title is the best, but this is probably second, it's far better than you would expect given its origin story was probably Memory Man smoking a blunt, thinking of puns on "Cuban Linx" and coming up with...."Chef Raekwon...Cuban Linx....CHEF GUEVARA!" and then opening Photoshop. But these projects both prove that even though Rae's delivery was increasingly irritatingly soporific between his masterpieces, that the writing and craftsmanship were still there, he just needed the right production and atmosphere. This does cheat by including some OB4CL ringer verses, but Memory Man has worked closely with Kool Keith for some time, he knows how to prune the jewels from an unmotivated old rapper late in their career. Still a stans only affair but if you're enough of a Chef obsessive to look at this page in the first place it's worth tracking down.
