This video helps us understand the role genetically modified food play in achieving sustainability of the environment. Genetically modified organisms have their DNA genetically altered. One of the most common use of it is in food production. Many people think it’s not safe, but it hasn’t scientifically been proven that the it has a negative impact on humans. Genetically modifying our food is not very different than selective breeding, which is something the public fails to understand. In terms of sustainability, using GMO in crops has many positive impacts on the environment and the human body. Injecting minerals and vitamins in crops help increase the nutritional factor which is very beneficial. GM crops yield more while taking the same amount of land space compared to organic farming. It also protects the habitat of other species, that would usually be destroyed with the use of chemicals to lessen pesticides. While the public focuses only on the negativities of GMO’s, this video gives a small glimpse of the benefits. If people get an idea even of some of the affects they can have on the environment, it may allow them to look at it in a different light.
