Now that the dust has settled, I’m doing a walkthrough of the finished first pour. The star of the show is the FastFoot footing system. In 20+ years of pouring concrete, the crew I worked with had never seen footings poured into bags—they actually sent other guys out to the site just to see if it would hold.

Not only did it hold perfectly, but the FabForm bracing did an amazing job keeping everything stabilized during the vibration and the wet mix. It’s a huge relief to see it all standing exactly where I planned it. For anyone on the fence about using these systems: I can’t recommend them enough. They took a high-stress, first-time situation and turned it into a rock-solid success.

One last critical step before the concrete went in: I tied the house's main grounding wire into a 20-foot section of rebar in the footer. This creates a 'Ufer Ground,' using the massive footprint of the concrete foundation to ensure the electrical system is perfectly grounded to the earth. It’s a small detail that’s buried forever now, but it’s one of the best ways to ensure the home’s electrical safety for a lifetime.
