Ficus Bonsai Trees - Pruning and Shaping Ideas 🌱

Hi Everyone! In this video we are working on a few Ficus Bonsai Trees. I'll be showing you methods of approaching these trees through pruning, shaping and repotting in order to develop them into great Bonsai.

The methods in which I prune/shape, wire and repot these trees are pretty straightforward so any beginner to Bonsai should be able to follow along!

Seen in a previous video, the clump style we created from ficus cuttings has now fused at the base which means we can upsize the pot and wire the clump so that the trunks fan outwards. We then work on a ficus ginseng which is a common houseplant Bonsai. The branches are pruned so that they develop with good taper. The two cuttings taken from the ginseng are pruned in two different ways as I explain two different ways I want them to develop. One long and tall and the other pruned to grow more compact.

In the UK the Ficus Bonsai makes an excellent indoor Bonsai or houseplant as it can find it difficult to withstand the outdoor climate. There is a large variety of Ficus Species, these pruning and shaping ideas should work on the majority of ficus species.
